Fun Ball Mastery

Exercise description:

To start the exercise, one/two players have a ball. The rest of the soccer balls are with the coach. The exercise starts with one/two players with a ball dribbling around the area and trying to hit the other players below the knee.
1. This has to be done with a side-foot pass.
2. If a player is hit below the knee they go and collect a ball from the coach and join as a chaser. Play until all the players have been hit.

3. Change the starting taggers.

4. The players with the ball have to keep their ball close to them before taking a shot at an opponent. They will be using the inside, outside, sole of the foot to move the ball quickly.

Coaching points:

Energy! Emphasize the importance of the pass. Pass with the side of your foot. Aim for the legs. If players kick their ball out, they have to retrieve it.

Intended outcome:

  • Fun

  • To improve ball control and passing technique that is not in isolation.

  • Teamwork

  • Decision-making. If the player tries to hit a player from a longer distance, they will more than likely miss.

  • Create chaos, just like a real game.

  • Get the players ready for the next exercise.

Variations:

Possible Performance Problems:

Players will take the pass at a longer distance. They will have to go and get their ball every time this happens.

The players who have not been hit will need to scan the area when they are running. Collisions may happen.
